Offerings
I currently take on work in two forms: full-time scientific leadership roles, and focused contract engagements on a fixed-hour monthly retainer. Both are grounded in the same commitment to rigorous, transparent decision science applied to problems in healthcare.
Full Time
Scientific leadership roles in healthcare decision science.
I am open to full-time roles where I can lead the scientific direction of a team or function. That typically means a Director, VP, or Head of role at an organization whose mission sits somewhere in healthcare decision science, from real-world evidence and outcomes research to clinical decision support, analytics infrastructure, or applied AI.
What I bring to a leadership role
- — A decade of applied experience across big pharma, health tech, and early-stage companies, including senior scientific roles at Roche, Flatiron Health, and Talkiatry.
- — A track record of building analytical systems that teams actually use, from non coders to scientific experts.
- — A research background in judgment and decision making under uncertainty, and a PhD in psychology focused on how people reason with evidence.
- — A teaching instinct. I have trained more than 500 students and professionals, and I expect to spend real time developing the people I work with.
I am based in Portland, Oregon and work remotely. I will also consider the right Portland-based role in person.
Let's TalkContract
Focused, problem-specific support on a fixed-hour monthly retainer.
For organizations that need rigorous decision science without adding a full-time hire, I offer contract engagements on a 10 to 20 hour per month retainer. The retainer model keeps the work focused and the relationship predictable on both sides: you get a known block of senior attention each month, and I can go deep on the problems that matter without the overhead of constant rescoping.
Engagements I take on
- — Decision tool design. Designing simple, inspectable decision aids that experts can trust and apply.
- — AI and LLM evaluation and validation. Designing the tests, benchmarks, and monitoring needed to tell whether an AI tool is actually doing what its users believe it is doing.
- — Training and workshops. Tailored sessions for technical teams or executive audiences on decision science, real-world evidence, or the responsible use of AI in healthcare.
- — Fractional scientific leadership and advising. Serving as an external scientific voice for founders, research leads, or executive teams who need senior judgment on a recurring basis.
- — Expert review. Independent review of existing models, pipelines, or studies, with clear findings on what is working, what is not, and what to do about it.
Engagements I do not take on include pure software engineering or implementation-only work, and any work that would require me to provide clinical interpretation or medical advice. My value is in the scientific reasoning behind a system, not in writing production code or practicing medicine.
Rates are shared on request. Get in touch with a short description of the problem you are trying to solve and we can decide together whether a retainer is the right fit.
